The comedy-drama “Emily In Paris” on Netflix is the total hype at the moment. The second season just came out on Dec 22. Fans had to wait since Oct. to finally enjoy the continuation. However, there is a lot of negative voices speaking up right now.

The story is about Emily Cooper who lives in Chicago, Illinois and gets a job opportunity in Paris, France to work for a marketing firm called “Savoir” to give them an American view on all the manufacturing processes. It is not easy for her to leave her hometown since she has a boyfriend, but she has no other choice than to start this new adventure. Emily has a lot of struggles to overcome in Paris which is shown by this quote, “I like Paris, but I’m not really sure Paris likes me”. If you want to know if Emily and her boyfriend really manage to keep their relationship alive, or what eccentric people Emily meets on her time abroad, you will discover after watching “Emily In Paris” on Netflix.

People are saying the show is too stereotypical and are accusing it of being racist. There are also people who say that it portrays French culture in an inaccurate and inappropriate way. There is a scene, for example, when the employees start working after 10am, moreover in my opinion the show is meant to be entertaining for people, not educational.

There are also people who say it represents the “American optimism and innocence”. For them it means that Emily, who stands for the United States, thinks every idea and imagination she has is always better than the ones French people have. It is unlikely that the producers made this show to make France stand in a bad light, in fact it does the opposite.

After watching the first season, I really wanted to watch the second season because it ends with a cliffhanger and I could not wait to see how the story continues.

Emily In Paris is romanticizing France as a country. It not only shows the most beautiful parts of the city, but also how French bakeries and flower shops look like. Everyone knows that Paris has its less developed and dirtier parts too, however, they [the producers] correctly decided to show the pretty and nice parts of the city.

The future of the show looks positive as they have already confirmed two additional seasons. I watched both seasons in a short amount of time, one episode is about 25 minutes long and one season has 10 episodes. It took me no more than 4 days for each season which is a short timeframe. I personally would recommend this story to everyone who likes romantic, funny, and cheesy stories. I watched it with a couple of friends which made it even more enjoyable.
