Adolescents of this generation have been in a very tough spot when it comes to socializing and mental health.
For a bit we were ripped away from the world because of our not so friendly friend COVID-19. Students in this generation are going through so much mentally inside and outside of school but how does this effect our school lives?
“That year and a half of quarantine was really hard on me as a person still navigating though life, I didn’t know what I was or what I wanted and COVID definitely stunted that discovery. After being away from so many people my social battery became a lot smaller and formed into social anxiety.” -anonymous
A lot of schools have had a spike in tardy and other attendance issues but why do we have these? Based on eye witness accounts and conversations with other students we have decided on a few factors.
“I don’t believe that the school counselors do enough to help students nor do the teachers so if I’m having a rough time I go sit somewhere quiet just to get away and breathe. Whether that place be my car, a bathroom, or even just an empty class.” -anonymous
As stated earlier a lot of adolescences are in a tough spot mentally for many reasons. It seems as though schools either don’t notice or just simply don’t care about their students. Kids are skipping classes, staying home, or just sleeping all day but the real question is why.
“Why my mental health has any sort of spark or imbalance I start having physical issues like nausea or dizziness which causes me to become unfocused and even more upset than I was. For this reason I often leave early or even just skip to relax and try to get better.” -anonymous
We believe that mental health is one of the biggest roadblocks possible for people and especially our developing adolescents today. We need to take control of the situation and figure out how we can help our generation grow and flourish beyond their obstacles.
