Music is a form of communication that connects people. With genres and sub-genres developing everyday, everyone can connect regardless of beliefs or language.
Hip-Hop is a genre that was formated in the ‘70s by eighteen-year-old African American DJ Kool. Since the foundation of Hip-Hop many people in the United States, primarily black people, created more music to align with the genre that was just discovered. In 2003, Kendrick Lamar Duckworth was one of the many black people to make Hip-Hop music.
“People have to go through trials and tribulations to get where they at. do your thing, continue to rock it because obviously, God wants you here,” Kendrick states in a 2015 Billboard interview.
Being a man of faith, that is how Kendrick believes he got the success that he has. His album ‘GNX’ released November 22, 2024 quickly surpassed two billion streams within the first ninety-six days of being out. This trend continued through the rest of 2024 into 2025. Many fans created TikTok trends to his songs such as “luther,” “peekaboo,” and “tv off.” These trends continued to garner his songs on ‘GNX’ more streams every day. To this day the album is still very popular with fan favorites being “luther” featuring singer SZA, “tv off” featuring lefty gunplay, and “squabble up.”
