Don’t you ever get curious about the people who work to assist you? Like a cash register or maybe a receptionist… do you ever wonder what’s going on their head behind that counter as they assist you? Even a mere librarian has her secrets.
Cory McCune, the Burke Librarian who checks books in and out for students and even help them find the kind of books that they’re searching for. A book on the Titanic? She has many! Popular literature amongst teen girls like: ‘Girl, Interrupted?’ she has!
McCune describes her life with child to adulthood as ‘average’ – “I grew up in Lincoln… that’s pretty average” but when asked about her decision to become a librarian, she had a lot more to say in that department.
“I started off as an English teacher, I decided that I wanted to do something different, but I still liked literature. A friend of mine said I should look into becoming a library and I did just that.”
Ms. Mccune doesn’t normally always sit in the library all day, she’s constantly on the move helping out.
“Sometimes I go to classrooms, work with the classes and help with their ipads… I read book reviews for new books to add to our collection (The Library), but it all varies on different days…”
With the knowledge of McCune’s transition from an English teacher to a Library in mind, the subject of her fondness of the school likely comes to mind. Going from class to class to assist with iPads then back to helping students check out books it must be stressful.
“I like it, it’s my 12th year working here so, you know, I like it. I like working with students, I like being here.”
There’s a large amount of people that go in and out of the library whether it’s to check out books, sit and relax during lunch or to do tutoring after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It raises concern on how the students behave and how McCune feels about students’ behavior.
“We’ve gone over the expectations… usually, the students follow the expectations and if they don’t, they don’t stay in here very long.”
Outside of her library life, McCune always has book recommendations and hopes to share her information with all.
“Recently, I really like The Inherent game series … I’m really into a good mystery at the moment and this book as good. I think anyone could enjoy it.”
