Florida is currently working to take away all childhood vaccine mandates and requirements for children in public schools stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Republican Governor, Ron DeSantis, has pushed out plans to make a state level “Make America Healthy Again” movement under Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Dr. Ladapo concurs that these vaccine requirements enforce “immoral” intrusion and has even compared the impact of the situation to “slavery”.
The CDC has questioned the mandate as childhood vaccines prevent about four million deaths worldwide each year advocating for early vaccination for children.
Dr. Debora Houry, former media chief at the CDC, warns Florida about outbreaks in the state and how preventable diseases will flourish with the new mandate.
Dr. Houry noted that around 270 children in the US died from influenza, 90% of those children were unvaccinated.
“Vaccines are really important to prevent kids from having these significant diseases” Dr. Houry said.
Andrew Spar, President of the Florida Education Association, the states largest labor union with more than 120,000 members, said that these plans for vaccines pose a threat to students and schools.
Questions arise from Floridians on whether the mandate truly protects school students being able to learn in an environment where vaccines are no longer required. Neighboring citizens in separate states also worry about their state following through with the same mandate for their children.
