AI can have a major effect on students’ academics. I think that this effect can be either good or bad, depending on the students’ intentions. AI has opened up a whole new world to educators and students. AI is not a replacement for teachers, but a powerful tool that can help boost learning experiences. While some educators are concerned about students using AI to cheat, the positive effects balance these concerns. AI is also a really big help to educators; it helps them come up with lesson ideas, assessments, and more.
“It’s an easy out, and most students don’t use it correctly,” Ms. Evan says. In some cases, this is true, but if the student’s intention isn’t to cheat, it isn’t an easy out. AI helps us brainstorm ideas; it helps us get a jump start on the assignment. Also, some teachers don’t know how to explain things very well; AI breaks it down step by step and helps you understand the material. For example, if a student is struggling with a specific subject, AI provides more support to help the student understand. AI makes learning more enjoyable and engaging by immediately helping with errors in assignments, grasping concepts quicker, and increasing students’ learning progress.
“It’s taking away our jobs,” says Mr. Anderson. I simply disagree with this because of how much good AI has done since it’s been around. AI can confront the varied learning needs of students, including those with special needs. For example, if a teacher has a class that’s hard for them to keep up with, with no assistant teacher, AI can be a huge help if used properly. What about students who can’t stay after school for tutoring? AI is accessible in and out of school!
In my opinion, I think it’s another teacher assistant in a way; they walk around and help students with things they’re struggling with. AI is the same thing! If teachers feel they’re losing control of how students use it, fail those who take it for granted. To take AI away from students completely is crazy. If students shouldn’t be allowed to use AI for assistance, then teachers shouldn’t either.
AI is, by far, the best educational tool for students and adults; it is positively impacting academics by the day. Everybody learns at a different pace, and that is what AI is for. AI keeps a classroom running more smoothly and efficiently by freeing up time for teachers to work on other assignments for the class and more!
