There were 30 students nominated for Burke’s senior homecoming court. Of those 30, only eight made it to the end.
The students who made it to the end for the seniors are Angel Jimenez, Sam Logeman, Dillion Birge, Brayden Pickett, Emily Douglas, Alejandra Wells, Amy Ramirez-Cabriales, and Sherlyne Torres-Diaz.
“No, I did not expect to be nominated for homecoming court. Mostly because there were a lot of nominees, at least twenty guys for the seniors. To be selected among the four is one, an achievement, two, a privilege, and three, an amazing opportunity to have. I want to win because I feel like that’d cool title to have. I’m not doing a lot of campaigning, I’m just sort of asking people. Other people are emailing everyone they know or putting posters up on the walls. I don’t mind the campaigning but I think it would be cool if I took the win home because I didn’t really do much,” Angel Jimenez (12th) said.
Though a part of the court was expecting to be nominated, few of them were shocked to be nominated. These are the students who represent Burke in a way that everyone, especially teachers, noticed.
“I wasn’t really shocked to be in the main court because I was on it as a junior but, being in the final four was not something I was expecting. I was not prepared for it. I feel like I expected to be voted but not really. My friends were pretty good at getting names around and half of my friend group is on it. I have thought about being queen since I was little and I think it’s so fun to be able to wear a tiara and say, ‘I’m a queen,’” Emily Douglas (12th) said.
There was no disappointment in the air for the court this year. Though Emily Douglas wanted to be queen, she found greater joy in being the princess. None of the contenders found sadness in the results, instead they felt a deep sense of pride watching their friends win.
“I feel so happy! I’m at a loss for words! I’m so happy for the people that voted for me! I’m so happy for my friends, they mean the most to me! I would like to thank God for this. I have Jesus right by my side,” Alejandra Wells (12th, homecoming queen) said.
Congratulations to homecoming king Brayden Pickett, queen Alejandra Wells, prince Sam Logeman, and princess Emily Douglas!
