When Senior Anorah Wade steps onto the stage with the Synergy show choir, she is not just performing with a group, but performing with a second family. For her, show choir is a space where hard work, music, and belonging all comes together.
Wade describes Synergy as more than just a performance group but a constantly growing community that shares equal amounts of dedication between the members and the same love for music.
“Synergy show choir is a family constantly evolving. We sing and dance simultaneously while striving to be better” Wade said.
Being part of this group means working toward a common goal that will highlight the choir.
Every year the show choir group will perform a themed show that is chosen by their music director. After a theme is chosen, the group bring it all together through teamwork and practice.
“Our music director chooses the set or theme for the year, then finds songs to go with it. And we, as the ensemble, put it all together,” said Wade.
However, what audience members see during a performance is not the complete picture. Constant effort, time, and energy go into their routines.
“Show choir is more than what people see on stage for the 15 to 17 minutes we perform, we meet every other day in class and have after school practices on Tuesdays. People don’t realize how much time and passion it takes” Anorah Wade explains.
When asked where her dedication comes from, she explained how it stems from her love of music.
She joined show choir because she wanted to share her passion with others and find that sense of belonging with others.

Overtime, her role involving Synergy has drastically grown. Now being a team leader, she has discovered that leadership involves much more than simply being in charge. Learning to listen, support, and grow with others are all important components to being a leader.
“Being a leader in show choir has helped me grow by teaching me that a great leader is also a great follower,” said Wade.
All the rehearsals, late nights, and busy schedules, there is that one particular part of show choir that makes it worth it for Wade: performing.
Some performances stand out more than others. For her, one of those memorable performances was during her freshman year when the choir performed ‘Over the Rainbow’ from The Wizard Of Oz.
“That song means a lot to me,” she then said, “it represents finding beauty in hard times and reminds me that you can overcome anything,” said Wade.
Moments such as those have helped her realize how powerful and important arts can be for not just her but society and the world as a whole.
Besides doing show choir, Wade still manages to stay involved with her various other school activities. She participates in H concert choir, Varsity Cheer, and BSLC.
Outside of school, she works and enjoys spending time with her family and goes to church.
Regardless of the busy schedules of a high school student, Synergy remains an important part of her high school experience.
“Being a part of Synergy means deepening my passion for music while being with my second family,” Wade said. “
