Audrey Bassett, a senior volleyball player at Burke High School in Omaha, Nebraska, is breaking school records.
This athlete, an outside hitter for Omaha Burke, hit 1,000 career kills this season, setting a school record that has never been reached before. Bassett has been a star player at Burke for all four years, competing on varsity since her freshman year.
“Breaking that record and achieving this moment was such a great feeling and is something I will never forget,” Bassett said.
Although Bassett has played at Burke all four years, Burke’s volleyball team hasn’t always been the best. She had many opportunities to transfer to a stronger program, but she chose to stick it out at Burke. Why?
“The friendships and bonds I’ve made through this team are some of the best,” she said. “My best friend Lauren Raduechel is our libero. She’s the one I’m closest to. Everyone else has turned into a sister just as much as Lauren.”
Bassett’s energy every game is something the DawgPound will never forget. The DawgPound, Burke’s student section, is Audrey’s biggest fan and loves whenever she gets a kill. Why? Because of the “Bassett Blast.”
The Bassett Blast is what the DawgPound calls it when Audrey scores a kill and the crowd goes absolutely crazy. It’s an electric feeling.
“I love whenever I make a big play because the DawgPound is always there bringing the energy, even when we’re down,” Bassett said.
