Orlando Dhaenens has good energy and can light up a conversation with his joking manner.
Dhaenens had just transferred to Burke early this year and was involved in both a play and wrestling. He has hopes of graduating early next year because he would rather move on than stay for a longer period. He only has three required classes he must take for graduation, and because seniors must take five, there is really nothing keeping him here. He does wish he could’ve known more people, but he made it quite clear he didn’t want to have connections anymore.
“I don’t want to get to know more people; I want to get out of Nebraska,” Dhaenens said.
He is an athletic kind of guy and has dibbled and dabbled in all kinds of sports, from soccer to baseball to wrestling. He had some opinions on playing baseball, and it just really isn’t his thing. The passion he has for wrestling doesn’t venture out as a profession because he isn’t quite sure if he wants to do wrestling further in his life. College wrestling has a lot of scouting, and it’s honestly really hard to get scouted. With his hopes of graduating early, this would be his last year of wrestling, so the chance is slim.
“Wrestling is better than other sports; I’ve met a lot of my closest friends from wrestling, and even my coach from when I was 4, I’m still pretty close to him even now,” Dhaenens said.
Dhaenens likes trying out new things, and in one of Burke’s last semester play he played Romeo just because he wanted to try something new, since he’s at a new school, so why not do something he’s never done before.
“I definitely enjoyed being in the play and being in theater, but I won’t do it again,” Dhaenens said.
He has done things with himself, but he couldn’t really think of his biggest accomplishment in his life, and then it was kind of the road to talk about something he won while playing sports; he spoke about an art class instead.
“I got this art award,” Dhaenens said.
Dhaenens has to be the most care-free, funniest guy ever because he straight up said if he were to ever get big one day, the things he could get famous for are: a mugshot, being a comedian, or officially being the tallest guy in the world.
“I’m waiting for Guinness to get back to me,” Dhaenens said.
