On October 7th, the choir classes held their first concert. The theme of this concert was ‘Always a Place for You.’ The mission was for choir students to invite a friend of theirs to sing in the choir even if they did not take part in a choir class.
“I started with the idea of a friend choir and considered what pieces would be appropriate for that. Then once I had selected ‘Always a Place for You,’ I decided that would be the theme for the whole concert.” Mrs. Stefanie Cannon, director of choirs, said.
All of the pieces revolved around the concert’s theme of belonging and finding one’s place.
“I was invited by my friend Jasmine! I found this really fun and enjoyable. The entire time I was just so captivated and in awe,” Zionnah “Nunu” Grandy stated.

Many friends, family, and staff gathered in Burke’s auditorium for this concert. A small majority of the audience gathered as well. Many friends participated in the friend choir performance, filling up the risers and stage.
With an amazing song selection, beautiful music played, joyous voices heard, this could be the start to a new Burke High choir tradition!
“I invited mutual friends from theater and band! It was nice to see them all show up. It felt pretty good to showcase, but it’s hard to put all of our hard work into one concert. That’s the reason I always do my best to perform to the best of my ability,” Zayne Prusia said.
