Burke High School is always making sure that their students are in an environment where they can learn. A lot of students cannot focus when they’re hungry. The sensation of your stomac screaming at you to feed yourself, put any form of nutrition into your body. Burke High School provides both breakfast and lunch, but what does the Burke community think about the meals they serve?
Recently, Burke introduced the hot and cold line. One line serves whatever is on the menu fresh and hot, while the other line serves things like pizza, chicken sandwiches, etc. In case you’re allergic to what they’re serving, or it’s something you can’t eat for religious purposes, or because you’re simply not feeling it. Like stated, the line is pretty new, so people are still getting used to the way things are, or they haven’t heard of it because they don’t listen to the announcements.
“I think it’s pretty good because you have options, like variety. Like you’ll get something special from the announcements and then you’ll get something basic like pizza,” junior Cole Hanson said.
Making sure each kid has a meal to eat to restore energy and de-stress after a long morning of learning. Some kids would personally bring their own lunch or choose to skip out due to the lunch not being to their own personal taste. But the cold line opening up provides people with a strict diet and/or picky appetite.
“I think the more options, the better,” senior Tucker Sanders said. “The consistency of the portions is probably better for most students, so that people who just want to get something simple can have that option.”
The new addition to Burke lunchtime menu feels like an opportunity to have more kids eat, like an encouragement. The new variety to the school lunch menu will be amazing for people with comfort foods. A lot of kids always look forward to pizza days at Burke, and seemingly that’s one of the foods that they choose to eat when it’s on the hot menu. So, it getting added to the cold line will allow more people to feel motivated to eat.
With something new being introduced, it might take students time to officially get used to it. A lot of students aren’t exactly aware of the existence of the cold line, whether it’s because they weren’t listening to the announcements or it entirely slipped their mind. In a week or so, students will have it memorized and figured out.
