How many teachers do you know at Burke?
There is an abundance of teachers at here at Burke and they all teach an array of things. Some teachers are more well known, even known as popular, some others are only known as popular amongst certain groups of kids. Sometimes students don’t even have a teacher, and they’ll still know who that teacher is.

Speaking of teachers only certain groups of people know, lets talk about Mrs. Cannon.
Mrs. Cannon is the vocal music teacher here at Burke. She teaches mixed chorus and Honors concert choir. She also directs the Burke show choir. The difference between mixed chorus and Honors concert choir is concert choir is an audition choir, so if you want in, you’re going to have to audition for it. The Rock Stars also get taught by her and they are currently working on the 101 Dalmatians musical. In the other choir classes, they are learning how to read a sheet of music, ensemble skills, and solfege. Concert choir kids are working on their May concert music and working on their District Music Contest music. Sadly, there isn’t that much to say about show choir because they have pretty much wrapped up their season, but they learn artistry and performance artistry.

We know there are plenty of Spanish teachers at this school lets talk about the Chinese teacher; Mr. Song.
Mr. Song is the Chinese teacher at Burke; he is the only Chinese teacher here at Burke. In the mornings he teaches at Beverage, but he also teaches here. This is his second-year teaching here. He teaches four different classes here, Chinese 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, so all levels of Chinese. They are learning a variety of topics from the textbooks they have in class, they learn greetings, food, buying clothes, traveling, and Chinese culture. They do a lot of activities during Chinese New Year. He really loves his job.

Keeping on the language teachers, this teacher some people may know: Ms. Quass.
Mrs. Quaas teaches all levels of French here at Burke, so if you ever wanted to learn French, you can take her class. She also teaches AP French so if you want it advanced, there you go. Unlike Chinese there is French for French speakers, they also have that for Spanish classes. Right now, the first and second year classes are learning about how to be polite and ordering food, including making a grocery list and to go shopping. In 5-6 they are learning about the environment and environment changes, 7-8 and AP are getting prepared for the AP test, and they started a new unit that has to do with the modern workplace.

Theres a class that they brought back, and that’s Creative Writing. That’s taught by Mr. Gathman.
Mr. Gathman teaches multiple classes and that ranges from Senior English to Creative Writing. For English, he teaches AP English literature and composition, Senior English, and dystopian literature. Creative Writing was originally taken away and brought back so students could take it if they wanted to. Honors Creative Writing is working on a theme project to finish off the year. AP literature is learning poetry, Dystopian literature and the regular English classes are reading Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. Now, if you’re interested in any of these classes than you should them, they’ll be really fun.
