Burke’s Jazz ensemble went to the University of Nebraska at Omaha to see their
Hispanic Heritage month jazz performance and meet guest artist Arturo O’Farill.
“I thought it was fun and educating, the way he conducted was cool” Ezra Pfile
said.
Pfile is one of the Burke’s jazz pianists that participated in the performance. The UNO jazz ensemble also introduced a new addition to this year’s performance, a DJ for one tune for their performance.
“They should’ve kept the DJ for longer” Pfile said.
The composition of the entire show consisted of O’Farill’s Afro-Cuban pieces
including Bebochicochuchoturo, Four Questions, Three Revolutions, Havana
Blues, Cielito Lindo and other O’Farill pieces.
“It was definitely different from years past.” Rhiannon Herrmann-Armsbury said.
Herrmann-Armsbury has been in the Burke jazz band all four years and has
remembered all her four years of UNO Hispanic Heritage month performances.
“He has his reason for composing and making music, it was really meaningful to
me” Herrmann-Armsbury said.
