Burkes choir program just recently had their fall concert, marking the first performance of the year. This year, we have a new choir teacher; Stefanie Catton and she seems to be doing an excellent job filling in the shoes. Emily Douglas, a junior at Burke, gave an incredibly detailed quote when asked about the choir department.
“I think Miss Catton has been a great Director this year. Ms Catton has been very engaged with her students and it’s helping guide us in the right direction to prepare us for the upcoming show choir competition season. She was a student teacher last year and you can tell that helped Miss Cotton get used to teaching the burke choir students and prepare her for what this year was going to bring to the table.”
As a former choir student, I know how overwhelming it could be to have to memorize music and communicate with others in class. After speaking to Cynthia Perez-Huizar a sophomore at Burke, she seemed to agree.
“Choir has been super fun and everyone in there is very helpful and supportive towards each other. Ms. Catton is very cool; obviously it’s not the same as Mr Groth, but she does just as good and makes choir a very peace and love type of experience for everyone”.
The Burke choir department is one of the most positive environments in the school. The students are very welcoming and involved, the teachers are compassionate, responsive, and understanding.
