Alejandra Wells is not only an amazing student, but an amazing person. Someone who people go to in times of need, she’s someone who is there for everyone no matter what. Wells not only made her shining character as something she holds as one of her most endearing traits, but into a successful business. Wells became a young entrepreneur, starting the organization Hiya, focusing on the wellness and mental health of teens no matter the circumstances, expanding her reach of not just only being there for her friends, but being a person who cares for all people in all times.
Wells always was there as someone who cared for classmates, friends, people she knew, but only until a friend of hers passing away to suicide in her first year of high school did, she truly take the initiative and gain the idea for what is now her successful business. With the slogan “Check on your people” she fully embraces the motto, always being there for those who need it.
“Hiya is a business built on mental health, and awareness. I started Hiya because I was struggling with mental health, anxiety, and depression. I wanted to find a way to help other people out with their mental health, so I started Hiya. It’s an online boutique that sells jewelry. Every item purchased we give one to a teen struggling with mental health.”
Wells has come along way, and her past has helped shape the way she is today. In many ways she has gone through lots to overcome to be able to get to where she is, yet each moment has built up the person who she is today, also allowing her to be able to come from a place of understanding and relatability when it comes to those who struggle with their own mental health.
“Some defining moments that have shaped me to being who I am today would be my transition from middle school to high school. When you have a fresh start like going into high school you get to shape yourself as much as you want to. I feel like I have changed in that aspect. I’ve also changed by my parents getting divorced, I had to take a leadership role in my household. I had to raise my sister a bit and be there for my mom as well.”
No matter what she’s there for her friends and family, and her help, efforts, and kindness have not gone unnoticed in the slightest.
“She’s very inclusive, you know. One thing I see is that she always tries to add the person that’s getting left out into the conversation, which I appreciate a lot.” Brooks Coslor, sophomore and friend of Alejandra wells, says.
“She’s very kind, she’s respectable. She has really built up a platform for herself. She is mature, where a lot of students aren’t honestly. I think she is kind of the peak of Burke. She goes to meetings, she owns a business, runs it herself. She does all of that while bouncing around, balancing her friends, work, all that. I admire her a lot.” Lily Bodkin, one of Wells’ closest friends, says.
Not only has her classmates and friends noticed her acts of generosity and care, but her teachers and coaches have as well. Not only is her character one that is kind, but one that is disciplined and focused. Alejandra is active in her academics, and also athletics, doing cross country, and doing track as well.
“She has kicked Ass throughout the years. She’s a strong minded young lady that is driven, doesn’t get caught up in the results yet strives to be the best she can be. She’s a wonderful teammate. She cares, she’s passionate. She’s kind, and she just loves the cross country cultures so she’s been a great, GREAT, addition and a wonderful teammate.” Coach Satterly says.
“Alejandra has a beautiful personality. She smiles, she talks, she’s very inclusive with all of her classmates, and she’s a wonderful student. One of the things that makes her most wonderful is her interest, and how much she really extends her enjoyability to the class.” Mrs. Boltinghouse says.
Time and time again, Alejandra has proven her worth to everyone around her, while also making those around her feel their own self worth as well. She is someone who always takes the time to care, take the time to be there. Someone who is an outstanding person in every setting she is in. She makes those around her feel proud to know her.
“That’s my girlfriend. I’m happy, she’s happy. She’s funny, she likes to talk, and I like to listen. She’s successful. I’m proud.” Leyton Bush, Wells’ boyfriend says. ”Check on your people.”
