Samuel Ouren is a junior at Burke high school in Omaha Nebraska. For this project we have been given a name of a student to find their story and put it out to the world. Samuel is incredibly involved in the orchestra at Burke high where he plays the cello. As well as being part of the Dungeons and Dragons club, being on the Wii sports team and esports teams for splatoon, Mario cart, and smash bros.
During one of our interviews, I asked Sam what he does in school to which he replied, “I do esports, there was Wii sports but that kinda died and I do DND club after school every Friday.” He was then asked about why he does these things “DND because I like the story and that’s just been one of my favorite things to do so now that I have a group to do it with its just so much better.”
Outside of school students may be different people so digging a bit more I asked about his hobbies outside of school. “If the weather is nice I like to go out with friends otherwise I just sit inside and do my best to relax, I need more interaction outside of school, it’s just like I’ve lived under a rock my whole life but now that I’m in high school I can go out more.”
Since this is all about Sam, I asked a bit about things he is proud of, “I’m just happy I’ve made it this far in my life, I’ve come a long way.” Then he was asked about what he wants to do in life moving forwards. “Science. I want to go into any kind of science, been trying to lean more towards chemistry but with the air and space academy I am kinda forced into physics so hopefully next year I can do chemistry.” He seemed very enthusiastic when talking about science, so I asked why he liked science so much. “It’s just been an interest of mine since I was a kid, I watched a lot of science shows growing up.”
To sum up the interview I asked Sam about Burke a little bit, I asked if it was his first choice for a school and if not then what was. “It was closest so I didn’t really have a second thought and most likely where all of my friends will be going as well.”
