With an eye on the apple, senior Brook Applquiest knows exactly where she wants to be in five years.
Working as an assistant teacher at (insert name here), Applequiest has plans on becoming an elementary school teacher after college.
“I thought it would be a good kind of entry-level and builder,” Applequeist said. “So, I just talk to my friends who have worked there and then just emailed the director of the program I said I’d be interested in setting up an interview.”
More specifically, Applequiest is moving toward a foreign language component.
“I’m planning on going to college,” Applequiest said. “I’m not sure where yet, but I’m going to major and elementary education with a focus special ed and get my Spanish minor so hopefully work as an elementary special teacher in a Spanish community.”
I then asked Applequiest how all four years at Burke High has been and she said
“I really enjoyed a really good friend plugged in from there. That’s lots of opportunities for both school involvement but equally important to remember is community involvement and just having a really good friend group to support you as you go having a good friend group.”
I started to get to know her as a person by asking her about herself. I asked her if she ever been on vacation and if so, which was your favorite one. “My family has traveled a lot,” Applequiest said. “My favorite vacation that I’ve been on was when I went on a mission. A week on mission to Ecuador, which was really fun and then I love to ski any ski trip we’ve gone on.”
I also asked her some smaller question like where she’s from, if she’s a morning or night person, and what her favorite thing to do outside of school was. She said she’s from Omaha Nebraska and was a night person. As a direct consequence of the fact that she doesn’t like getting up early in the morning. “My favorite thing to do in my free time is either play sports,” Applequiest said. “I play softball and tennis and I’m on the bowling team. Or occasionally, under certain circumstances I’ll hang out with friends and just do whatever.”
I then started to ask her questions about what she wants to do in the future and stuff that has happened in the past.
Firstly I asked her what the best book she read in the past five year was.
“The best thing I’ve read in the last year is either the Fourth Wing series by Rebecca Yarros or A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole,” Applequiest said. “I read a lot, so it is hard to narrow it down to one book or series!”
Applequiest has some big plans on he bucket list
“One item on my bucket list is to go skydiving and just to visit as many countries as possible.” Applequiest said.
