Out of everyone in an entire high school, Landon Salazar got selected by a worker, and/ or peer, for standing out to them and showing positivity. The student at Burke high school succeeds academically while still doing things he is passionate about in his free time and remains an uplifting person to others.
“I try and see the good in school,” Salazar says, “but I feel like it takes up time, and l’d rather be focusing on my passions.
Everyone has to like be here though so im going to have a good outlook on it instead of negativity but I like art and drawing and if I could just do that all day I would. School takes up a lot of time when I could be working on some of my personal projects and, you know, possibly making a career out of what i love to do”
Although the junior that attends Burke
High School doesn’t particularly love school, he shows up with a good attitude and remembers that some of the classes he has he enjoys. The classes he looks forward to going to boosts his mood and gives him some encouragement to get through the day. Some of the classes he takes have to do with things he likes to do on his own time, and he does enjoy some of his teachers.
“My favorite classes currently are Computer Graphics and Modern World History because I like editing things, and I just like learning history. Mr. Woodman and Mrs. Collins are very nice teachers. My favourite teacher of all time, though, was the Chinese teacher, Mrs. Lam. She no longer teaches here, but she was a great teacher. She taught at Beveridge as well, and she was the reason I went to Burke because I knew she taught here as well.” Salazar said.
“With art, I like to draw cartoons, like some that are from shows or sometimes
just draw some that come to mind or made-up ones. It just is fun, and l also enjoy writing because I have a strong imagination, and so things just come naturally when I write.” Salazar said.
After school is out, he thinks he’s going
to stay in Omaha or at least Nebraska because he likes it, and after high school he wants to become an independent cartoonist.
Salazar said, “I wasn’t born in Nebraska,
but I was too young to remember, so technically l’ve only lived here, like, from my memories, and I enjoy it. I think I would stay as of right now. and after college, I had become an independent cartoonist and posted my comics on YouTube.”
