Former 45th President Donald Trump, and now the 47th presidential elect for the 2024 election hasn’t even taken over office yet as role as the president of the United States. So far though he has managed to stir up controversy again and again this early since the election. One major way he has done so, so far is mentioning some ideas such as making Canada the 51st state, and taking over Greenland, and so on.
Donald Trump isn’t new to controversy, he’s not new to saying things that cause many to be in a state of shock, fear, excitement, or many other emotions. And this time it isn’t any different, but the one thing that changes things is that he may completely mean what he’s saying.
Now let’s focus back to the story, should President Trump really do this? would it benefit this country, and how so?
Absolutely…NOT.
For starters creating a 51st state out of country with many different providences that act like states would be flawed to begin with, there wouldn’t be a way to maintain one singular state so large. To annex the entire country and make multiple states from the providences is a lot more of a reasonable act (if you could consider that the case). We would be adding 40 million people into our country, the Republican party complains about immigrants already, and I don’t believe adding another 40 million to our own is what they really want to do.
I personally do side myself with the Republican party, I am one of the only members in my family who do, I like the Presidential elect, and in all honesty I do believe that he is not fully serious in what he says he plans to do on the topic of annexing these independent countries (if you could consider Greenland as independent).
My main reason that I feel as if this is a bad idea not only for our Country, but also for the republican party is simply because of the politics that are held within Canada. A country with a very left-leaning ideology. If Trump wants to make this country apart of our own, he would need to take for granted the amount of citizens who would be voting on a left leaning scale, completely ruining the size of the republican party within the United States.
Now I may have my own opinions on the topic of Canada, but when it comes to Greenland, a population of only around 60,000, my opinion changes on a long shot. Now it’s a mixed bag to say whether it would be harder or easier to take over Greenland, as it’s not it’s own country, yet it is a territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Saying to annex Canada is one thing, an ego booster, something to stir up a crowd, but there is some thought when it comes to Greenland. A lot of political talk right now is being able to get land up in the arctic, especially knowing our never-ending controversy and struggle with Russia. Land in the arctic is a jackpot for oil reserves, and one thing we can’t do without right now is oil. We may have dropped a true federal reserve based in gold to being the backing towards our dollar, but whether we like it or not, oil is our economy.
Now to put it said again, I think we need to focus on more important political matters In our own country to be able to truly “Make it great again”, and I have a strong feeling President Trump is simply just trying to warm up the crowd with controversy, yet to put my opinion bluntly, I think its best if we stay out of imperialism, and focus on what we have, especially when it comes to Canada.
