The intense waiting for the cast list of Chicago, Burkes musical of the year, is finally over for Maddi Newman and other performers as they receive the news.
Newman, a senior who auditioned is looking forward to her last burke musical and getting to play such a interesting character, Roxie Hart.
“I feel very excited about the role I got. It’ll definitely be challenging but I look forward to using this as a learning experience.” Newman said.
Even when there are challenges, that brings more opportunities for the cast and crew to have much fun and expand their creativity.
“I think this musical fits Burke because the cast is able to preform with high energy and bring all the sass into a dance style that is new for a lot of us.” Stasia Orr said.
Dance is a big part of this years musical as it’s a switch from what they’ve done before.
“I’m excited most for how we are trying out a different type of dance with this production. Its much more relaxed and easier compared to Hairspray” Ada Lewis said
With new dance, leads to new opportunities and chances for students to rise to their passion and show what they love doing most.
“I’m so exited and stoked over getting picked to be dance captain! Dancing is one of my biggest passions in life so getting small opportunities like this to showcase that and help others is amazing!” Sherlyne Torres-Diaz said
Though even with the excitement, there is always room for disappointment.
“Im kinda disappointed about the role(s) that I got because I wanted to play as one of the girls in cell block tango, But I feel like its definitely great casting.” Artemis Wright said.
Once members are casted, they are then put to the task of getting into character, as if they knew them but that adds to the excitement of performing.
“My character is vert complicated. She hurts a lot of people to get what she wants, which is very interesting to play as an actor. What’s most interesting about her is her ambition that carries her throughout the story.” Newman says.
Theater brings many of new opportunities to Burke students and a chance for them to freely express themselves in a manner of performing
“Im most excited to build a close community with the cast and crew. Every show sort of creates a family, and that’s what makes theatre so fun!” Newman Said.
