For Burke Show Choir members, show choir is making new connections and reminding yourself why you love performing. However, it can also be stressful and hard to coordinate during Bonanza Weekend. Bonanza is the show choir competition Burke Show Choir, Synergy, Hosts in mid-January. Bonanza includes setting up for hosting show choirs from around the Midwest, giving out concessions, and cheering on other choirs. No matter how late it runs, many people say it’s worth it.
“Bonanza is such an electric experience I love the energy, the audience reactions, and seeing everyone’s hard work pay off. We prepare for months to make every detail perfect, and it’s amazing to see other groups sets and creativity too” Keyonu Robbins (11) said.
Everyone talks about making new bonds, but Bonanza is exclusively one of the most team building events of the year.
“Bonanza always brings synergy members closer together. Being able to spend time with friends within synergy and working together makes our group stronger and sets our competition season off to a strong start. Without bonanza synergy wouldn’t be the same” Sam Colburn (12) said.
For the first year, Bonanza hosted a middle school night to show middle school show choirs what an actual show choir competition looks like, however some did not like it.
“I didn’t like the middle school night only because it did stress and overwhelm me a bit all night but it was nice seeing their reactions and everything to seeing their rooms then seeing them at awards” Lilly Fischer (12) said.
For some they loved being able to see new people in the spot they were once in as a middle school student.
“I love the middle school night because it was so amazing to see the younger students be just as in love with show choir as I am and also the pure joy on the faces of the Beatrice students when it was announced that they won” Addi Casey (9) said.
