“It feels very surreal. I’m almost in disbelief that it happened still. If you asked me a year ago if I thought id make it this big this far, winning awards, going on trips to conventions, and interviewing photographers, I probably would’ve told you that you’re crazy. When Mr. Bjorklund told me I won the award, I got a little emotional. This program means everything to me, I genuinely wouldn’t be where I’m at now if it wasn’t for my passion and love for this program. I really owe it all to journalism,” Sagitteh said.
Sagitteh success isn’t just a fluke, you must have the passion to have success in what you are pursuing.
“I think that my success has come from the time, care, and effort I’ve given into this program. Journalism is something that takes time, patience, and effort. I believe anyone can get far in this program. Without a doubt, I think I’m a prime example that can attest to that. I’ve only been doing this for a little less than a year, and I’ve already accomplished so much. Since I put 110% effort into it and never gave up. I persisted and put as much love, care, time, and patience as I could. That’s all you need in journalism. If you can do that, which I did as well, I my book you’ll succeed,”Sagitteh said.
This passion didn’t start yesterday. Sagitteh has always enjoyed writing ever since she was little. Her interest in hearing other peoples stories is what drew her to journalism in the first place.
“I’ve always been a writer. Growing up, I’d always carry some type of notebook or diary with me. I would write whatever came to mind. It was either a fictional story I came up with or an experience I had. I also love hearing other peoples stories. Combining my love of writing and telling stories, put me in the journalism program.
Sagitteh plans to continue pursuing her passion in her future endeavors. “Journalism is something I’ve always wanted to do in my future. I love doing it. With all the effort and accomplishments, I couldn’t see myself not pursuing journalism in some way in my future. It’s something I don’t want to give up on,” Sagitteh said.
