Advocates speak when others let fear hold them back.
Martin Luther King spoke for every voice that needed to be heard, and he represented the ideal that America should’vebeen but wasn’t achieving. He was the face of the civil rights movement un the mid-20th century and was a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
MLK is always going to be a spoken topic he is the only non-president whose birthday is a US holiday, and is taught as the light in the dark because segregation was distasteful and he decided to lead people and help them fight for a spot in the light with no violence because violence can only show so much. Violence can lead to more issues than solving them because fear can transfer into anger and that could only lead to more fighting of civil rights, and he went down the smooth way of not using violence just standing up tall and walking when they say sit.
“This problem can be solved in the United States if enough people give themselves to it; if they devote their lives to breaking down all of the barriers that separate men from men on the basis of race or color,” MLK said in a BBC interview.
MLK might be another historian to most kids who have to learn about him but more than anything we need his words of wisdom to lead us in the right direction. With the inhumane acts happening right now in the US there isn’t time for history to repeat itself and have that one person speak up and do good for the people and for it to just decline decades later. The entire US needs to be advocates of the things going on because if it’s only one man’s dream to live in a better time then we will never get anywhere, and in. the position we happen to be in now speaking up and standing up is what we need to do. MLK had a way of speaking up to open people’s ears and we need to pierce through to the ones who refuse to see how wrong and disgusting these ice raids are and these territorial claims.
“He had this great capacity to understand humanity and to speak in a way that pierced thought and awakened people to a greater sense,” Dr. Bernice King says in an interview.
Fear is always going to play a part in our history, and it will continue to have a part in our future but even through the days of fear MLK was an advocate and still spoke up when others were silenced by the fear they had. In 2026 the fear is building but if we want change to happen, we are going to be our own advocates to our own future. Humanity will fall to an ending if we don’t follow in the footsteps of MLK and have our own dream and take our own action. The only way to be an advocate is to be educated on what’s happening in the world and what has happened in the past. You can’t fix what you haven’t learn.
“It’s been a consistent problem, the issue from the education standpoint,” Dr. Bernice King said. “I feel that is the place where we ought to discuss, to dialogue. That’s the whole purpose of education.”
