Omaha Burke High School’s varsity basketball team has faced a challenging stretch this season, coming off losses to ranked opponents Millard North, Buena Vista, Lincoln Northeast, Omaha Northwest and Fremont. With several close and rocky games, the Bulldogs now find themselves with their backs against the wall.
This stretch has placed Burke against some of the toughest competition in the area, testing the team’s resilience and confidence as it pushes through a demanding schedule.
“The biggest challenge the team has faced during this losing streak is staying together and fighting through the adversity because we feel like we lost games that should’ve been easy wins,” senior Jay Svoboda said.
Despite the recent results, the Bulldogs have focused on unity and accountability, using the losses as an opportunity to reflect and improve as the season progresses. Team chemistry has become a priority, as players work to lift one another during difficult moments.
“One of us isn’t going to be better than the whole team, so we have learned to stay together and play more together as a whole,” senior Jordan Price said.
As the season continues, the Bulldogs hope to learn from this stretch and use it as motivation heading into the postseason. If Burke wants to make a run in districts, its path forward depends on playing together and competing with confidence as a team.
