Audio Video Productions (AVP) takes you behind the scenes and explores how students are using their AV skills. AVP is a very important way for students to express themselves through something that provides skill and preparation for their future.
After speaking with the teacher of AVP, Mr. Adams explained, “The program is meant to introduce kids to creative, technical, and professional skills needed to produce high-quality digital media. Students gain hands-on experience with industry-standard cameras, audio equipment, and software while exploring the fundamentals of storytelling, composition, and visual communication.”
The AVP class provides an opportunity for students who want to further their skills, like editing or camera work, while also learning about creativity and storytelling. Mr. Adams says it’s especially helpful to teach those skills, and he tries his hardest to make the class fun and open to his students’ creativity.
“I pretty much have three camps, people that are interested in the technical side, and then the kids that are interested in the creativity side. So I try to make a space for both of those groups of people. And then, of course, there’s the third, which is my biggest problem, people that are just thrown in there by the powers that be,” Adams said. “So I try to balance it as much as possible and make them go hand in hand, like you could be creative with this technical stuff, that type of thing. But it is tough sometimes.”
Now you know what AVP class provides for students at Burke — a creative class for students who want to better advance their skills when it comes to videography and production. Those two are not the only things students learn; they’re also being taught practical, professional skills they’ll use in the near future.
“Just seeing their final products,” Adams said. “Especially the seniors last year, their stuff was really good.”
