Junior and senior year is that time when life seems to sink in, and you realize you won’t be a kid forever.
People start talking about what they want to do with their life and what colleges they will attend. There are the people who don’t know what they want to do with life, which is why Burke’s counseling center has set up opportunities for people to visit colleges and get a taste of what they could do.
“College visits when you are in senior year can help widen your horizon so you can see what colleges have for students. Especially for those that are out of state, and you wouldn’t be able to naturally go visit them. College reps come here and can give you all the information you would get on a college tour,” Counselor ]Morgan Hines said.
Students can sign up for college visits via SchooLinks. One of the visits that was set up for this semester was Clarkson College, a medical school located here in Omaha. Clarkson offers courses on nursing, psychology, community health, and more.
“There are a lot of needs in our community whether they’re physical, emotional, or mental health. The opportunities we have here at Clarkson College allow students to engage on a meaningful career where they’ll be able to help people and make a difference in their lives with a lot of different career options,” Sarah Flanagan, Assistant Director of General Education & Health Sciences said.
Senior year is always made to seem like the most important year of high school because you are stressed all the time. It’s that time when you start thinking about what to do after school. Though many people find it stressful, Jonae Davis seems to think it is easier than it is portrayed to be.
“I’ve applied to UNO (University of Nebraska Omaha), UNL (University of Nebraska-Lincoln), and USD (University of South Dakota). I know that I want to go into college for music education. Applying for colleges has not been as bad as I thought it would be. I did it with my mom and it was pretty easy. If you sit down and lock in, it’ll go by fast,” Jonae Davis (Senior) said.
Whether you don’t know what to do after high school or have your life all planned out, I am confident you will have it figured out by the end of the year.
