Xi-Ann Amos and the journey through creative identity

Style and art as a form of self expression are defining pieces of one’s identity. For Xi-Ann Amos she lives in it, art and self expression are not separate parts of her life but rather they intertwine with each other, reflecting who she is and who she is becoming.

Amos traces the beginning of this connection back to the fifth grade; art went from being something she just enjoyed into something that reflected her character.

“A girl tried to shame me for my art style , so I forced myself to keep practicing and learning” Amos said.

Her response to the negativity turned into a deeper commitment to improvement and capability.

Overtime however the relationship with art has shifted but is still prevalent within her life and identity.

“I was more dedicated when I was younger to prove to myself I am capable of drawing anything, now that I can I don’t draw as much and draw as something for fun”

Although she no longer practices intensity, she still finds serenity within her passion.

“I just feel calmness when everything is going well,” Amos explained.

Similar to her talent for art, she also has a talent within fashion. She quickly described her style as self expression, the way she presents herself reflects but also has a direct impact upon her own confidence.

“Dressing up just makes me feel better within,” Amos said.

Just like most journeys it is not going to be easy, facing criticism comes with her unique sense of style especially her interest in the Japanese fashion trend known as Veki. she still however continues to embrace her individuality and stay true to her individuality.

When asked how dressing up makes her feel it makes her, “Feel more like myself” Amos said.

With growth and time, creativity is not always something that you can control. And with Amo’s journey with art and expression proves to still be evolving.

“Something that just happens to you… sometimes I get good ideas and sometimes I don’t.” Amos said.
