The TV show “Wayne” is an action comedy series about a teenager named Wayne who lives in Brockton, Massachusetts. Wayne is quiet, but he’s also extremely aggressive when it comes to standing up for what he thinks is right. After his dad dies, Wayne and his girlfriend Del go on a road trip to Florida to take back his dad’s stolen car. The show has violence, dark humor, and emotional moments, which makes it stand out from a lot of other teen shows.
One positive of “Wayne” being the main character. Wayne isn’t a normal hero he barely talks, but when he does something, it’s intense. His strong sense of justice makes him interesting because even when he does violent things. Wayne and Del’s relationship is also a big strength of the show. Their conversations feel awkward in a realistic way, like how real teenagers talk. Del adds humor and personality, which balances out Wayne’s serious attitude.
Another good thing about “Wayne” is the overall style of the show. It’s filmed in a gritty way that matches the rough places the characters travel through. The fight scenes are fast and messy, which makes them feel real. The dark humor works well too, making serious moments less heavy without taking away from the emotion. The music also fits the vibe of the show.
Even though the show has a lot of strengths, it does have some negatives. One issue is the amount of violence. While it fits the story, it can feel like there’s fighting in almost every episode, which gets a little repetitive. Some scenes focus more on violence than moving the story forward. The violence can also be a bit much since most of the characters are still teenagers.
Another downside is that some of the side characters aren’t very well developed. Wayne and Del are written really well, but other characters, like Del’s brothers, mostly exist just to cause problems and act dum. Also, the show was canceled after one season, which leaves the story unfinished. This is disappointing because the show builds up a lot of storylines that never fully played out. Overall, “Wayne” is a 8 out of 10 show for me.
